Rodents in a Tulsa attic
Today we had the opportunity to investigate a home where the owner's were hearing an animal in the wall. Their initial thought was that a squirrel had entered the home and was trapped. We decided to set an appointment to go investigate the property to see what help could be provided.
On arrival I walked the perimeter of the home and although the home owner had set a trap with food that a squirrel would like no hits have occurred. The weather has been very cold the last three or so day's and when there is cold weather pests such as squirrels, mice, rats all seek shelter from the weather. My initial inspection reveled some evidence of a rodent problem. I found an opening that would typically go unnoticed on the front edge of the garage. This opening looked like a missed mortar spot where mice or rats could enter. I then searched the garage, found a few droppings along the perimeter. Then we went inside the attic space. Sure enough I found larger droppings matching Rat droppings. These rodents are excellent climbers and can easily scale a rock wall.
Looking at the small entry into the area of concern I found more rat droppings leading me to believe the problem all along was a rat. These pests will nest up in an attic during the cold weather and then mate, have young and create a real problem for the home owner. This Tulsa home was not yet infested but likely had one or two that made it inside this attic. I discussed the issue with the homeowner and recommended baiting the attic and garage for rodent pests. The owner felt that was the best way to proceed and we moved forward with the service. Just another day of helping our customer's keep their homes pest free from these rodent pests.
